In order to encourage various business sectors to implement proper waste management, resource minimization, recycle and reuse, the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) in June 2002 has promulgated the “Incentives and award rules for institutions with proven performance on waste management as well as resource minimization, recycle and reuse”. In 2006, there are 33 institutions from six sectors such as agriculture, industry, education,hospital,and science park, competing for the 2006 performance award. After preliminary review,reassessment and final selection by the committee consisting of experts, scholars, relevant regulatory authorities and the EPA, this year 21 distinguished performance awards have been announced for 2006.
